This central area at higher elevations is known as Upcountry and surrounds the island’s highest peak, the Haleakalā volcano at 10,023 feet. If you still have the energy (which you probably won’t considering how early you got up) The Road to Hana leads you to Hana, a small town on the South end of Maui. Here were our favourite activities (all in the west except for the snorkelling trip):Our absolute favourite activity on Maui was taking a whale watching boat trip from Lahaina.Thousands of humpback whales travel from Alaska to Hawaii during the winter to mate, give birth, and nurse their young in the warm, shallow water. Yes, it’s frustrating, but at least you now know going in that there will be a wait!The airport is on East Maui and most visitors say somewhere on the West Coast (either South Maui, the central Kehi area or North Maui. ) The adventure side that locals live and the relaxing side that we all dream of.
On your way to your hotel, swing by Drop your bags off at the hotel (or check-in if you can) and then hop back into your car to do some basic exploring! While this is true in certain areas, it’s also possible to get off the beaten path, and the island has so much to offer including gorgeous beaches, whales, turtles, snorkelling, waterfalls, hikes, volcanoes, bamboo forests, and some stunning scenery.For our Maui itinerary, we chose three places to stay, which enabled us to explore the island without any long exhausting day trips.Most visitors to Maui stay in West or South Maui where the best beaches are. And I hadn’t even considered the Upcountry area of Maui. You could manage with one night in Upcountry, but we didn’t want to have to drive to the west coast and wait for an afternoon check-in after the early start. After a 10 am check-out, we took a slow drive to the west side of the island as we couldn’t check in until the afternoon.There’s a huge nursery with lots of plants and seating areas where you can hang out, read books, or play chess. Make sure to stop by the Kehei artisan market next door other Kihei Caffe, this is where you can find jewelry and souvenirs!

There are excellent beaches a five-minute drive north and south.All units are individually owned and decorated differently. On our first day we drove the Road to Hana, which is one of the most popular things to do in Maui.This narrow, windy road through the rainforest passes waterfalls, beaches, gardens, and bamboo forests.
